You've got to see this factory to believe it. We love how there are conductors in the wooden floors, enabling the little robots to roam around!

What else would you do to increase it's efficiency and "green" features?

Industrial Innovation by MakerBot Industries is 3D Printing for us All

August 12th, 2011

Link: http://www.makerbot.com

We here at Brave Boat Studios have been dazzled for a long time with the idea of 3D Printers.   Now finally, the new THING-O-MATIC has been released!  We love the idea of being able to literally make anything we can think of. On the spot.  These babies range from $1300 for self-assembly models to about $2,500 for fully-assembled ones.  We want one now!

The video is right when it says that  people who want a 3D Printer are probably those who are "thinking in the future." Hey, we're the famous Industrial Website Design Team.   How can we go on without a THING-O-MATIC?   Shouldn't somebody get us one? All DONATIONS accepted...

Innovative (and Safer!) Way to Cut Wood

June 30th, 2011

Someone we know went to cut a tree limb with a chainsaw and sliced his arm open in a nasty fashion.  Several hundred stitches later, (well, you know that tale...)

Now here's an Innovation from Worx JawSaw that keeps you safe while still tackling the tough cutting jobs.   And it's affordable too, at about $120 on up:

The Crew at Brave Boat Studios, authors of this estimable (and wildly popular!) blog, have been away for a month working on other technical stuff. But now we're back, bringing the most incredible Innovation we've seen yet.  If you want to own it, prices start at about $80,000 and that's probably for a stripped-down model.  This is the most amazing Innovation we've seen for a long time.  Please share this post with your family, friends and business partners because we want this blog to continue growing.  Enjoy the Seabreacher:

Corning created an extraordinary video in this case, one which went viral quickly. It's an intelligent and creative ad which offers glass product ideas you've probably never thought of. Sit through it to the end and reset your sights on tomorrow, thanks to the vision and ingenuity of Corning:

Ecologically Sound Ecoffin is Pure Genius

A firm in Colorado offers an eco-friendly coffin called the "Ecoffin."  It is made of banana sheaves, bamboo or pandanus and it biodegrades along with the body, in a timeframe of 6 months to 2 years.

Has anybody in our large world of netizens actually purchased and used one of these?

We think this is so neat:   According to the manufacturer, Reflex Marine, the TORO is the latest evolution in crane assisted personnel transfer for the offshore industry. Building on design principles of existing devices, the 4 passenger TORO combines passenger protection, speed of entry and exit and a highly intuitive ride experience all at a very competitive price.   Really innovative!

Kind of scary to ride in it though, we suspect...

Talk about innovative ideas - Check out this from Inventist, Inc.  It's the AquaSkipper.  They say:  "Don't just walk on water.  Skip on it!"

New Machine Brings Parts and Products to Market Faster, and At Lower Cost

September 9th, 2010

Link: http://www.zcorp.com

We just love this amazing machine!  Z Corporation's new Rapid Prototyping machine builds high-end plastic functional prototypes for a third of the cost of machines with similar performance. This we find really exciting - we're thinking about how the machine could be used by say, global IT organizations to model global networks etc.  What might the next generation of such a machine look like or do?

Imagination at work - iWALKFree

August 30th, 2010

Now usually we don't point out such consumer-oriented products, we trend toward the more industrial. But you just can't ignore the genius in this one:

Check out the details of the technology here.

Industrial Origami of Ohio

August 2nd, 2010

Link: http://www.industrialorigami.com/home.cfm

Here's a company called "Industrial Origami" of Ohio, with a patented technology that uses a "folding" methodology. We just love the name of the company - extraordinarily effective branding -- as well as the potential of its folding technology. They service manufacturers of appliances, transportation and electrical enclosure products. According to the company's own website:

"The patented Industrial Origami Precision Fold Technology is based on the creation of fold defining geometries which, when put into sheet metal, enable structure and innovative shapes never before possible with traditional technologies. These features called "smiles", control the folding and are responsible for the accurate folding properties embedded in the sheet metal."

There are some videoclips that demonstrate the idea here. They've got some good images, like this electical box build progression, which kind of illustrate the "folding" technology simply:

From the UK’s Bristol Robotics Laboratory comes the ECOBOT III, the first robot that can power itself by eating and excreting biomass.  Better still , it apparently can self-manage for an entire week!  It uses nearly 50 fuel cells to break down its food.
